Rule 2.3 Entries/Eligibility
Registration of Teams: Entries for the League shall be invited before the beginning of each season from Clubs, Associations and any other interested persons. TEAM CAPTAINS ONLY shall forward the Registration Form for their team, nominating a maximum of 10 players and a minimum of 6. For teams re-registering, 4 players must be from the previously registered team. It is the responsibility of the Club, Association or Team to decide who is eligible to play for them.

Rule 2.11 Guest Players:
a. Guest players: All divisions may register 4 guest players. Guest players in all Divisions may play a combined total of 4 matches in any combination. Not 4 matches per guest. Guests are subject to the same rules as full time players.
b. Guest players (except Division 5) must be registered on a team from a lower Division. (For example, if registered in Division 3, a player may guest for any Divisions higher than Division 3.) The Division and team must be stated on the Score Sheet. c. Division 5 may register guest players who are not currently playing in the League. In this case, their playing level should be appropriate to the Division. All playing history and if possible a note from a coach should be included upon registration.
d. Guest players can be registered at any time but must be registered before playing a match. When playing a guest player, “guest” must be indicated on the Score Sheet. e. Division 5 guests are allowed to move into a full time position on the roster if space allows. However, if the guest has played a match prior to changing status, that guest spot is considered to have been used. A full-time player may not become a guest player regardless of whether she has played a match or not.. f. A guest player can be a guest for one team only.
3.8 Both Captains are responsible for the completion of full names of all players on the Score Sheet. Any guest player should be identified as such. It is the responsibility of the winning team to fax the Score Sheet, without delay, to the Division Representative. In the case of a draw, the home team is responsible for faxing the Score Sheet. Telephoned results are not acceptable alone. The Captain of the winning team keeps the original and gives or sends a copy to the opponent. The Score Sheet must be filled out in pen. Wet Weather
7.1 In the case of wet weather, all members of both teams must turn up for the match and be prepared to wait until 10.00am to postpone the match unless BOTH captains agree to reschedule the match. If the match is rained off, captains should let their Division Rep know immediately. 7.5 If play cannot start by 10.00am, because of rain or a Hot Weather Warning, both Captains are responsible for rescheduling the match within the three week period from the original date excluding holiday breaks (eg, Easter). 7.8 All rescheduled matches must be played within one week after the relevant Division’s last scheduled match.

Are you aware that the HK Ladies Tennis League is designed for HK residents only? Therefore, each player and guest player registered with your team is expected to be available to play the entire season and be residing in Hong Kong during that season. This effectively rules out Hong Kong visitors from playing in matches. However, the committee will accept both valid passports as well as Hong Kong ID cards as proof of identity, not just HK ID cards, as has previously been the case. This is because the issue has been raised that not all people living in HK have ID cards.

“The game of tennis depends upon courtesy and fairness. The highest type of sportsmanship is expected from every player. To knowingly disregard the rules or take unfair advantage of the fact that the matches are self umpired by, e.g., foot faulting, calling balls that are in out, not volunteering violations such as double bounce, ball touching your body or clothing, touching the net, reaching over the net, etc. is cheating. Whilst your opponent can do little to prevent this, it does make for a very unpleasant day, usually ends up with no lunch, and defeats the purpose of competing, which is to “win or lose in a fair and honest manner.” This excerpt, from the back page of the handbook, deserves to be highlighted once again. Please make sure each and every player on every team reads and understands this excerpt. Our matches are self-umpired. While it is certainly possible to find people who could possibly umpire matches, that is not the intent of this league. NO match should ever be umpired by anyone other than the four people who are on the court playing. That includes other team players, coaches, friends, or passer-bys. In addition, other than the four people playing a match, no one else should be directly on the court. A helpful website for tennis matches which are self-umpired is: http://dps.altdc3.va.twimm.net/usta_master/usta/doc/content/doc_13_2292.pdf

Each tennis match should, hopefully, end with a lunch hosted by the home team for the guest team. It is extremely important that the guest team notify the home team at least three days in advance if they will not stay for lunch. Most players personally shoulder the cost of this lunch, and it is not polite to leave them paying for unnecessary lunches. Similarly, the host team should not be expected to host more than the four guest players who played in the match. Any visiting non-playing team members, who come to cheer on their team, should not automatically be expected to be included in the ensuing lunch.

The HKLWTL rules state that the team who wins the most sets wins the match. In the event of each team winning 4 sets, the match is declared a tie, and each team receives 4 points for the match.

Q: The server had just missed her first serve. A ball from another court comes over the fence onto our court before she can hit her second serve – does the server get to take two serves because of the interruption? A: Yes. The service is a let if the ball served touches the net, strap, or band, and is otherwise good, or if the service is delivered before the receiver is ready. A let is then called and the server shall serve again. But in this case, a service let does not annul a previous fault. However, if a service is interrupted by some cause beyond those listed above, such as a stray ball entering the court, the ENTIRE point shall be replayed, starting with the first serve.

| Rules - Player changes, Mobile phones, and others |
Email confirmation of any player changes: Captains are required to keep a copy of any player changes, both the request and the confirmation whether faxed or emailed. In case of a player query, if the captain cannot produce the request and the confirmation of registration, then that player will be deemed not registered and any points won by this player will be deducted. If you do not want to keep the information on your computer, please print a copy and put it in your captains file. (Please read "Guidelines for Captains" at the end of the booklet)
Mobile Phones The rules governing mobile phone use in our league are clearly stated in section 8 of the rules. "Use" of the phone, includes checking messages and texting. Our rules supersede any club rules, even if your club permits phone use on the court, you are not allowed to use your phone until your match is completed. Some clubs impose very stiff fines and membership penalties for breaking this rule. Ignoring member's requests not to use your phone places the member in a very awkward postion. It also gives you, your team and club a bad reputation. Please respect the rules of the league and more importantly remember you are a guest when playing away matches.
Rule 36. Order of Receiving in Doubles: The server's partner or receiver's partner may take any position on his side of the net in or out of the Court that he wishes.
